So I was contracted to paint a table. ( I get some pretty awesome requests.) There is this really cool eccentric couple who wanted me to paint the Egyptian Goddess, Ma'at in the center of a table and put the name "Wizdom" above it. (Their future daughter)-----:) A sure sign that Sugar is tied up in the art studio is my lack of blog posts---and let's see, we have a few events to plan, I've got a few portraits to paint, and some cool sewing projects-----YES I said sewing! lol. Anywhoooooo check it out:) ---I can't wait until someone hires me for wall art, I'm dying to paint a wall. LOL

A Tea Party:)!
The suprise party that we helped to plan last weekend went swell! I only managed to snap off a few pictures, but here are some of the elements of this '50's Style Tea Party' :
A Digital Invitation I created for her:) (This is just a screen shot so it's not as clear as it was)
(Above) A Birthday Banner, some cool flag garlands, and some hanging flower balls finished the look.
For favors, I made personalized tea-bags (Green Tea) and named it after the Birthday Lady:) the Party Date is in the middle, and the bottom says "Sweet. Refreshing" (Someone has already asked for a tutorial, so I will post one later.)
I made strawberry shortcakes, and soda-floats for dessert, and their menu included simple finger foods like sandwiches and shish-kabobs (that is spelled my way btw)----so it was simple yet sassy. I'm sooo sorry I was only there for set-up so I forgot to take pics after it was ALL put together. I'm TERRIBLE at that! But you get the idea right? Hehe!
And lastly, I made a Tea-Pot Cake, complete with a little 'Sugar Dish', some sugar squares, and one of the teabag favors.:) It was delish!

Awww Kusudama Flowers:)
We are planning a party for this coming weekend for a client, and I am creating a garland of sorts for decorations. Ok I say garland but in the world of Sugar, no decision is made until it's done. I might decide not to do a garland, and make hanging paper-flower balls. (Not the played-out tissue-paper ones)-----I am working with some Kusudama paper flowers, which are these fancy little origami flowers that I just LOVE to make.
Here is what they look like completed:
Here are the step-by-step instructions on how to make your own (they are kind of tedious but beautiful!)---you can also purchase them from our Etsy Shoppe this summer.
Here is my quick How-To for those of you who would like to try to make one:)
I hope you like it! :)

Le Salon Rouge Illustrations
So I created some more illustrations for my Le Salon Rouge line, and added two more characters to the line. Here are all of the ones I have so far, the newest members are the first few pictures, some of which are children, or Le Rouge Academy:) Some of them you may have seen but someone emailed me and asked me to post them all (oh, and they will be available in our Etsy Shoppe this summer)~!
I can't wait to share a new D.I.Y project with you, it was a gift I made for Nar who just had a birthday this weekend, so I couldn't post it last week because it was a surprise! Which one of these do you like the most and why? Any suggestions for characters?

A Pasty Disaster.
Yes. I said pasty. Um...have you ever worn those pasty bras that are like silicone rubber stickers? (See Exhibit A)
Well I decided to wear these last night for three distinct reasons:
A) I am considering suggesting my backless brides with busty areas (or B -1/2 ladies like myself) to use these.
B) I think the ides of silicone stickers on ones nipple-hills is entirely too cool.
C) I had on one of those outfits that tend to make your breasts look like they are banging your knees if you go bra-less.
Let me say....AAAaaHHHH!!!!! Now I am not a drinker. I have a glass of wine or in the case of last night; some champagne, and I dance to the melody in my head. (Not the actual melody playing.) So my two girlfriends and I end up in a place called Shadow Room in DC, which we heard from a promoter friend is very nice on Thursdays. It certainly is! It was full when we got there and it did not slow down until the night was over. As usual, we ended up in VIP because we saw someone, who knew someone, who's birthday it was, and yada yada. We end up adjacent to Raheem Devaughn and his hooligans and we just stood on the couch (not necessarily by choice)---- and danced the night away. I wish the story ended here.
By the time we were forced to stand on the couch, because there were certainly more people in this place than the law should and likely does allow, it was a sweat box. Our curls teetered on the verge of absolute frizzdom, and my silk one piece suit began to cling to my skin like a wet piece of paper. Nonetheless ( I had made a new friend named Asia and I was quite enjoying pretending to be a gangster to any and every Jay-Z song.)----I persisted. Then it happened. The pasties lost their paste.
All of a sudden there was a weight around my waist. I looked down and I had two pairs of boobs, one where they certainly should be, and the other somewhere in my navel area. THEN the camera guy crawls over a couch to get a shot, someone grabs me and SNAP!!! Its written in history forever. The four-breasted beast of DC.
I was able to pull them back up for a moment but by this time I'm sweaty and no good at all because the paste was clearly gone. I finally sank all the way down on the couch as if to send a text, and slid them off. My only option was to place them behind the couch because my tiny snatch wouldn't fit them!!!!!
I hope you are laughing your you know what off, because that was certainly one of the funniest things that will NEVER happen to me again~! Death to silicone pasties! (Unless you are wearing them somewhere you wont sweat....duh!)
Have a nice weekend. Oh! I saw Tiger and Elin there and they said hi:

Bob Marley Painting. Delish.
I have been a'busy folks! I know I keep saying that so hush. Right now I am pumped up on personality juice (coffee) which I don't normally drink but my mind is tired so you know how that goes. Aside from meeting some cool people this week, I have been finishing up a Bob Marley painting that someone ordered and here it is. I used tissue to make his locks, and this heinous old green sweater that I had worn until the seams came undone-----ok TMI-----to make his hat.
I LOVE Marley!!!:)
Ok that's my yum-yum for the day! I am off to drop him off, and get started on a fondant cake that we are making for someone's birthday this weekend.......(and then I'm throwing on my get-down shoes ---as if I do anything more than a wine-induced two-step---and taking my friend Jill out for a DC good time because she is here from Puerto Rico!)

Gay Marriage!!!! Whoo-hooo!!!!!
I want to be the first----or not so first----to say how freakin' psyched I am that gay marriage is legal in DC. How long and hard did the GBLT community fight for the right to make it official, and here it is!!! I tip my hat to them today!!!

We Snuck Out in Between Sprinkles.....
Yesterday we had a another dose of rain but to my pleasant surprise, it was 60 degrees outside, and for about an hour, it was sunny and warm, so I snatched up Thing 1 and Thing 2, and we ran outside to enjoy it; mud and all.
I also have a twelve year old step-son but he decided that his friend Malcolm was waaay cooler than me and my camera and willied off down the street before I could get a good shot. Oh, I'll catch him later.
I am pretty much obsessed with anything that looks aged. (I have taken a vow not to use the word vintage)----So I used a picture editing software and murdered the saturation levels amongst some other tweaks to get these pics of Frick and Frack looking like the 70's.
I love spontaneous sunlight on a rainy day!

One Rainy Sunday....

The first blog post huh? I have genuflected over my first blog post for about a week, hoping a cool title, topic, or well edited picture would make me an instant Follower Magnet, a five-minute Style Me Pretty or Design Sponge.
What an arduous task; staying interesting. Let me start by saying I used to hate the rain. I felt like it drained my energy and stifled me. As I matured I see it as a cleansing thing. Something to meditate on, to clear your emotional sinuses. A chance to start something new.
I have decided, on this rainy Sunday, as I sit in my messy house, with messy hair in my messy art studio, to just be me. To pour out my thoughts and inspirations like water onto this keyboard and just let you have it. Let the flood begin.
