Sweet Friday

This week has been very productive for me, I finally typed out my goals for this year and I feel motivated to get things accomplished. However, I haven't gotten back into my exercise routine yet. I'm constantly on the go and all I want to do is sit on the sofa...and sit...and sit.  I will get there soon...no really I will. Promise! Until then...here's to a loungey weekend.

As 2013 packs its suitcases to leave and 2014 starts gearing to come in, this will be the last Sweet Friday post of the year. The year has gone by so fast, but I can't wait for 2014! It will be bigger and better. There will be more creative content on the blog, real wedding features, special projects that we are doing and much more. The Great Bridal Scavenger Hunt is in the works for 2014 and we will be bringing the deets to you soon. 2013 has been a good year, but now it's time to welcome 2014. So enjoy the last weekend of the year. Get a cup of tea {green tea for me...} and reflect on what could, should and has been. Enjoy these last few moments as you await the arrival of new ones to come.

It's Friday, Friday, Friday!  Have you finished your Christmas shopping? I haven't...I need to get a move on it. But I prefer to shop after Christmas for better deals. I'm all about a good deal, so most of the time my family gets after Christmas gifts. Well at least they get them...eventually.  Have a good weekend!

It snowed this week and I was actually relieved.  I'm the last person that would appreciate snow, but when the weather forecast was 60 degrees for two consecutive days in December ... I started to be a little concerned. The holidays isn't the holidays without cold weather, gloves, snow boots and hot chocolate.  I don't like the cold, but I definitely didn't want a warm Christmas. Here is to seasons not changing and the holidays being the same as you remembered from your childhood.

Sweet Friday: Remembering Nelson Mandela

Most of the blog posts that we feature are wedding & events related, but Sweet Friday allows us to share our inspirations and thoughts outside the nuptial world. The legacy of Nelson Mandela has been the reigning topic of inspiration around the bloggersphere and it is only befitting to address how this man's strength has inspired me. I have to be honest, this post was a struggle to write. I just did not know how to articulate what I wanted to say. I mean what do you say about a man that you have never met before, but has contributed to your life in so many indirect ways.  My solution? To write a note to the one who was:

Dear Mr. Mandela,

You don't know me, but I know you very well.  I just wanted to thank you for your courage, determination, resilience, strength and faith.  Thank you for personifying freedom in the eyes of those who struggle to be set free.  Now knowing that true freedom is in the mindset of one who dares to dream. I've learned to be free to create, dream and innovate. That freedom is being able to let go and express yourself. You taught me how to love my neighbors as myself. To reach back and help those that are behind. To let our choices reflect our hopes and not our fears. That courage is not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. You succeeded in what looked like the impossible to demonstrate what is possible. Your legacy will remain unforgettable.  Now your soul may finally rest in peace.

After a long week of work (for some) and the government shutdown is FINALLY over... meaning DC is back to normal, it's time to kick off your shoes and relax your feet (remember that SWV song?!) curl up on the couch and watch a marathon of your Netflix queue or go out to the movies in this 70 degree weather DC has been graced with this week. Summer, Summer, Summertime! Even though it's August I'm still holding on to summer and not letting go.  My grip on it is tight! Lol. I mean vacays, beaches, florals, warm weather, birds chirping, ice cream, relaxing days, long nights and of course the height of wedding season.  I'm looking forward to hosting my friends bridal shower this weekend and I'm anticipating lots of laughter. It's always fun to hang out with my girls, especially when I'm celebrating life's milestones with them. I'm going to New York this weekend to visit family and friends and I am looking forward to it. I went to school there and since I graduated,  I have been poor at keeping in touch. So a mini reunion is in order. This dress is fashion-forward and is a nod to NYC, the fashion capital.
